Heskin Vintage Rally

Heskin Vintage rally was a great success and the NWTPC stand stirred up a lot of interest in our sport and the tractors were well received by the crowd. The Wilkinson, Forrest, Taylor and Parkinson families along with Red Mist and Lancashire Bomber were there all weekend handing out flyers and talking to the public.

The favourite attraction was the small pedal model of a tractor and sledge, which gave the kids an opportunity to "have a go" and hopefully we met some new drivers of the future

Chipping Steam Fair and Heskin Vintage Rally

Some members of the NW Club spent a very wet bank hoilday weekend at the annual Chipping steam fair. Despite the weather, Thurston Warrior and Red Mist were displayed and members of their teams talked to the public and gave out flyers to advertise our events.

Many thanks to Stephen, Rachel and Joe Ainsworth, Alistair, Lisa and Joseph Parkinson and of course "well done" Derek, Carol and Evie Taylor who braved the elements (of which we suffered them all!) to promote our sport.

This weekend 4th and 5th June the club is attending The Heskin Vintage Rally at Chorley, displaying Lancashire Bomber, Simply Red and Red Mist. If you are there come and say hello and have a look at the work that has been done on these tractors over the Winter.

Social Night March 19th

NWTPC DINNER DANCE

The annual dinner dance for the NWTPC was held at The Crofters Hotel, Garstang on Saturday 30th October 2010. It was wonderful to see so many members and guests there this year and was a thank you to many for all their hard work over the year as well as a celebration of the NW tractors achievements during the 2010 season.

The trophy winners were as follows along with some photos of their presentations by our Chairman John Eccles and President Brian Armistead.

The Wilcon Trophy for committment to tractor pulling was awarded to Jim Greenhalgh.

The Vicky Tindall Memorial Trophy was presented to Derek and Carol Taylor for their work over many years within the club.

Trophies were also awarded to the highest placed NW tractors in the BTPA Championship, these were:

Over 401 Prostock: John Eccles and Simply Red

Under 401 Prostock: Alistair Parkinson and Red Mist

Super Farm: Richard Forlow/Angus McCamish and Solway Spirit

Euro Cup at Gt Eccleston

The Gt Eccleston August Event is to host a round of the Euro Cup for the 3.5 T Superstock class . The ETPC have asked the NWTPC to host this class because other EuroCup events have either been cancelled or rained out this year , and the competitors wanted another round .There are 18 top teams registered in this highly competitive class. The class will be staged on the Saturday evening of the 28th -29th weekend.
There will also be other top European guests at the Event including Popeye , The Judge and Cloud Nine . Other teams to confirmed soon - so watch this space!!!

Fylde Vintage Weekend

Members of the club have been out on the road again this weekend, at the Fylde Vintage Weekend and Farm Show. Club Chairman John Eccles and Alistair Parkinson took Simply Red and Red Mist along to display and promote our events at Great Eccleston Show and August Bank Holiday.

The event was a first at the venue at Wharles near Kirkham.

The public yet again showed a great deal of interest in the tractors and we had the opportunity to take them into the ring and talk about the difference between tractor pullers and farm tractors.

John also took part in an interview with Radio Lancashire, which was a great bit of advertising for our events.

Again the club must thank all who took part and gave their free time, John and Lorena Eccles, Alistair and Lisa Parkinson (and of course Joseph!), Derek and Carol Taylor, Chris Wilkinson and Richard Scott.

Heskin Vintage Rally

Members of the comittee have been busy this weekend at Heskin Vintage Rally, promoting the North West Club. Chris Wilkinson and Alistair Parkinson took Lancashire Bomber and Red Mist, to put on display and give out flyers to promote our yearly events and answer questions from the general public.

Many thanks to Chris and Alistair, along with Simon Woods and John Forrest who have given up their spare time this weekend.

It was a great success and we have been invited to put on a similar display at the Fylde Vintage Weekend at Wharles, Kirkham on the weekend of the 3rd and 4th July. Anyone interested in taking part please contact Lisa on the usual club email or phone.

As you can see from the photos, the biggest challenge of the weekend was the gazebo!!

Simply red new year diet

Simply Red has to loose a big lump of weight from her rear end this winter. John is starting to move forward with the horse power but is not getting it down onto the track as the front end is running way to high, and this is not only loosing draw bar height but John is struggling to put down straight runs ,a problem he overcame two seasons ago with a new profab diff. Last year with the motor running strong the problem returned and was brought home to the team at the Euro Champs at Bakel were a heavy sledge setting had her front end pawing the air like never before. John got a lot of good advice from teams at the pull and had a long chat with Rob Van Derwall . Rob had done a lot of work on the engine block last winter and the work was top quality. After returning home John also had a lot of conversations with Peter Clarke who has always pointed him in the right direction. Peter had a set of hollow drive shafts in the USA which would give approximately 35 kg saving. It was a start but not enough, so it was decided to get the shafts and then get Rob to do all the machine work on the rear end casting. John decided that if he went for the maximum weight loss it is hoped that when he goes for an intercooler, there will still be a fair bit of movable weight left. The tractor was stripped and a trip over to Holland was arranged .

The parts to be machined lighter include:

Rear axle housing

New cover plate

Axle funnels & final drive (bull ) gears

New light weight drawbar

Alum bearing housing for brake axle

Alum bearing housing for diff

While John was in Holland he visited several teams and got a lot of very good advice. On his return he started to really look at where weight savings could be made. There is a lot of cover plates on the gear box that are made from cast, so these are being replaced with allum. The front engine cover has been machined off, all the old cast water pump, power steering pump mountings and the high low gearbox have been stripped out completely and new drive shafts installed. A new roll cage is being made with chrome molly. It’s going to be a big job to get all the jobs done for the start of the season, but with a lot of late nights the team are confident it can be achieved.

Bear Essentials Team Update

News from The team... Our first objective for 2009 was secured with Mike being crowned British Champion with Ice Bear. Although this is now the 5th time IB has won the championship it is the first one since 2004 and long overdue. We have managed with the help of our sponsors to build in a good level of reliability this year and have been able to develop IB further with some good runs and excellent data. The trick is now to build on this for 2010. Most of the major components are now in place to turn the wick up further and gain the extra horsepower needed.

Baby Bear kept the smaller 7.4L engine for the whole season, and in hindsight the decision was right as it allowed us to concentrate on IB with the new set up. BB ran well all season and collected a 3rd place in the British Championship to add to the crown gained in 2007. The tractor will now be stripped down, checked over and the new 8.2L motor fitted for 2010.
If we get the sums right BB should then be able to run very similarly to how IB ran this season with the new set up. We are looking forward to seeing how much extra power we can get out of the ‘baby tractor’, beware 2 bears on the prowl for 2010!!

Gt Eccleston Show

Workshop News

Following Kirkbride some teams have been busy repairing damage. Simply Red have been repairing gearbox problems. John was a bit heavy on the gear lever at the end of his run , trying to get it out of gear, and bend the quadrant shaft. That's all repaired now, they found that the engine problem was a damaged injector pump element , so Chris Wilkinson is working his magic, and John hopes to fire up the tractor again this weekend.
Alistair Parkinson is still smiling like the cat who got all the cream, after his first full pull on Red Mist at Kirkbride. The misfire he had in Sunday's pull off was due to a broken injector pipe, so they have fitted an old set from Simply Red, and Alistair is now looking forward to his home pull at Gt. Eccleston.

Simply Red

Simply Red has been rebuilt again after finding a water problem after the first fire-up. Now ready with new diff gears & new gears in the gearbox, to give a better ratio this year, John has fingers crossed for the weekend. The team are hoping that the new datalogger fitted will give them vital information to help them get the tractor dialled in more quickly. A re-panelled hood and new stickers, Simply Red looks great for the first outing of 2009.

Red Mist

Red Mist has undergone major work over the winter and is now ready for Kirkbride this weekend. With a crank grind and new shells fitted, Alistair had help from Chris Wilkinson to fit a new pump drive & timing cover that was found to be worn out. With a successful boost test in the field last Sunday, the Red Mist Team are hoping for better results this year.

Chris and the team have been busy over the last few months with lots of modifications to the Fordson Major. One of the big changes is the fitting of a new Crower slipper clutch. The Tractor was successfully fired up last Saturday, and hopefully all will be ready for the first event at Kirkbride,

Euro Cup Made - Holland

The 950kg Modified class was run at Made, Holland today with Little Dan driven by Robert Armistead achiving a great 3rd place. The class was won by Reny Mission Impossible, with Lambada IV, 2nd. You can see the final round of this Euro Cup class at Gt. Eccleston on the 30th August.

Simply Red Winter Rebuild

Well, Simply Red was up and running on Saturday, running like a gud un, with all the new bits fitted, and the new data logger up and running. John went to drop the oil last night, and found water in sump once again, and that's after a new block!! Engine now stripped again suspecting a cracked liner, so taken it round to engineers shop and he has just confirmed a hairline crack. Luckily John has a couple in stock, and will get one honed out today. So it looks like this season is going to start like the last one finished, busy nights.Well it will stop John getting bored.

New Truck Puller

Simon Haworth is currently revamping the old Scapheap Challenge truck up to the latest rules, hoping to have it out for the first pull at Kirkbride. The truck , with a new paint job, will be called The Darkside. Look forward to seeing it on the track.

UK Teams in Bernay

Last weekend was the Euro Cup round in Bernay France. Bad weather throughout the weekend meant that the only class completed, with UK teams was the 3.5T Superstock. That class was won be Incredible Deere from Holland, UK placings - Red Fever 2nd, Red Alert 5th, Just Smoky 7th.

Rob Roy Winter Work

Jim has been busy over the winter fitting a new role cage to Rob Roy ready for the 2009 season. He has changed his rear tyres for some radial 20.8 x 38, and the injection pump has had some major surgery by Chris Wilkinson. Jim is looking forward to the first pull at Kirkbride.
